The Inquisition.
Inquisitor Mark – These are magic items (rosette, dog tags, rings, pocket watches, tattoos) that proves a member's affiliation with the Inquisition. Members with the rank of Inquisitor and up carry them. The few who know this mark, knows that trouble will soon follow. The Mark is meant for:
- Allowing nearby Inquisitors to communicate with each other telepathically.
- It allows Grand Inquisitors to locate other Inquisitors.
- It can be used as pocket dimension storage devices excluding that tattoo.
- The tattoo version is called the Apex Rex, they're given only to Inquisitor Lords. They can be used to communicate to indefinite rank with another Inquisitor Lord or above.
- It must be worn at all times as magic tracks the actions of Inquisitor members and empower Emarosa
The Inquisition was founded for one reason and one reason alone: to create order through chaos; thus spreading the Night Queen's influence. Emarosa, has made it her mission to regain power if not through followers but creating chaos in her name. (Regardless if it's directly or inadvertently)
In modern times, the Inquisition operates at a multi-versal level albeit covertly. Outposts and headquarters are established in select verses to o obtain and exert power through politics, pharmaceutical, and economic influence instead of outward conquest and domination. However when the situation calls for it, they have the resources and personnel ready to be involved in wars, assassinations, genocide, and man made disasters.
Membership -
Primarily, an Inquisitor will either be approached by a Grand Inquisitor, vouched for and then tested by an Inquisitor, or be promoted after being trained by an Inquisitor. Membership is exclusive as the Inquisition are meant to be truly exceptional individuals of influence, power or both. Any man or woman may join the Inquisition, so long as they are willing to kill mercilessly and will put the Inquisition's needs above their own. Not even family comes before the Inquisition but cases of that are rare. Most often than note, Inquisition resources are available for full-fledged members whether it be medical reasons, family members in need, relocation, or smuggling those important to the Inquisitor, money is not an object and the Inquisition will always find a way...or make one.
Hierarchy -
Grand Inquisitor: A limit of two Grand Inquisitors can be active at a time. They have the utmost authority within the Inquisition and act as vessels for the Night Queen. Often time when there's two Grand Inquisitors, one will act as the Paradigm of War - their role being managing assassinations, war campaigns, and focusing on the security of the Inquisition. The other being the Kirin of Wisdom - their role is collecting information, setting up meetings, monitoring the activities of other Inquisitors, and managing the Inquisition's acquisitions.
Apex Rex – This the inner circle of the Inquisition, members of this faction can provide counsel to the Grand Inquisitors and help perform some of their duties. These members have massive influence, have shown consistent results, and/or possess a wisdom that Emarosa has deemed useful enough to help engineer events from the shadows. They operate with zero oversight and have access to all of the Inquisition's resources.
Inquisitor Lord: Veteran members that have shown their worth and dedication to the cause. Obtaining this rank is not for the faint of heart as it can only be given by a Grand Inquisitor based on merit. Lords are known for possessing immense wealth, influence, or combat prowess or a combination of the three. Examples of Inquisitor Lord roles/titles:
Doves – They preach the teachings of Emarosa without mentioning the Inquisition's name. Alternatively, for the non religious types, they manage social media campaigns for various shell companies that fund the Inquisition's multi-versal operations.
Crows – Inquisitors that manage spy networks in their respective outpost or headquarters. They provide intelligence for missions, relocating agents and their families, magical items to be acquired etc.
Owls – These Inquisitors are the experts on everything magic and have procured a magical item in the name of the Inquisition. Although they're the rarest to find since they're often out dealing with magical threats or looking for the next Holy Grail.
Hawks – Masters in the art of combat, these members have all obtained their lordship for one reason and one reason only: having an absurdly high body count.
Swans – All though the Inquisition aren't conquerors, they are well aware of the value of land. Lords with this title have acquired shadow nations, kingdoms, or even planets that are loyal to them and by extension the Inquisition.
Albatross - Lords that have earned the title through a miraculous accomplishment in service of the Inquisition. Primarily, they continue by service by venturing out to explore new lands and worlds for the Inquisition to establish a foothold. (foiling a coup, unearthing a conspiracy, saving an Inquisitor outpost)
Inquisitor: Exceptional men and women that have shown their willingness to serve Emarosa. Although faith isn't a requirement to become one of these elites. There are those chosen by the Grand Inquisitor himself. Regardless of how one is selected, the invitation means the person chosen holds purpose and holds the power to change the world. If there's one thing that any and every Inquisitor believes, it's the ends justifies the means, so long as the ends is a step forward in improving the world. What they do is their business so long as it benefits and doesn't expose the Inquisition.
Cog: These are member aren't aware of any Inquisition mission. They are only given the pieces of information and know that the organisation “wants to bring peace wherever it goes”. Often they are just brought on or allowed to join as they'll likely serve a purpose for the Inquisition at one point or another. Some may be used briefly for special tasks or one-shot missions while others may serve alongside the Inquisitor for the duration of their career. Over time, older, more experienced Inquisitors will have built an extensive network of spies, agents, and support personnel from the many strangers they'll meet.
